Althusser Quote

"Marx did not "say everything," not only because he did not have the time, but because to "say everything" makes no sense for a scientist: only a religion can pretend to "say everything." On the contrary, a scientific theory, by definition, always has something else to say, since it exists only in order to discover, in the very solution of problems, as many, if not more, problems than it resolves."

I've been thinking (well...mostly just today) about perhaps doing an independent study on Susan Bordo and Judth Butler, just so that I can have a chance to read all of the works they have written and perhaps be more prepped for my comp. But then I would have to put off my comp to second semester, which I guess doesn't really matter.

I really want to write an autobiography. Seriously. Maybe even before I graduate from Allegheny. Right now I am researching Simone de Beauvoir for a feminist theory paper and I cant help but be inspired. Is this my next grand project?

"something profound was here"

A nuts-and-bolts kind of girl.
A kind of girl that many men in her time
had tried to fix
with their grandfather's tools
only to see her
fall back apart,
like wood rotten through that refuses to hold
nails and screws
cause she's been screwed before.
like a child's healthy flesh
that forces out any foreign body
a splinter.
a piece of glass.
A dying body that rejects a fresh transplant
a new liver ( too much booze)
a new heart (too much self-sacrifice).

A little girl who split her own stitches
to let her wounds gape out.

Advice from Virginia Woolf: “The way to rock oneself back into writing is this. First gentle exercise in the air. Second the reading of good literature. It is a mistake to think that literature can be produced from the raw.”
". . . [The poet] arrives at the unknown: and even if, half crazed, in the end, he loses the understanding of his visions, he has seen them! Let him be destroyed in his leap by those unnamable, unutterable and innumerable things: there will come other horrible workers: they will begin at the horizons where he has succumbed." —Arthur Rimbaud

getting inspired while im writing my final papers

"Where men say, 'I have a theory,' women are more likely to say, 'I wonder if, maybe...'"

"And in the words of a woman administrator I interviewed, 'male faculty and administrators pontificate and hog the floor. They announce, "I have three points to make," and that paves the way for them to hold the floor until they've made all three. They've claimed that floor. Women usually don't feel they have the right to do that.'

ahhh
this would make an awesome comp topic.
"doing gender in academia, women academics performing gender through verbal and visual language during a transition stage toward a state of equality in the university..."something like that

i could interview female professors etc

cool!

im excited. and distracted. eek.
